Frequently asked questions

How can we help you ?

The SIGSCAN technology

How to size a Sigscan installation?

On average, you need one gateway per zone.

However, this also depends on parameters such as your use cases and your precision needs.

Does the solution work in steel environments?
Metallic environments are known to interfere with electromagnetic signals.

However, our solution, thanks to its zoning-based location technology designed specifically for the industrial sector, is not sensitive to such disturbances.

How much does the solution cost?

Our solution was designed to make it affordable, whatever is the company size (SMEs or corporations).

To achieve this, we made crucial technology choices that enable us to offer a solution simple to install and use, and with a very good ROI.

Is Sigscan only cloud-based?

depending on your IT requirements, we can propose to host SIGSCAN on the cloud or host it On-Premise.

In a general manner, SIGSCAN is used on the cloud during the test phases, while is is installed “on premise” mode, directly on your servers, during the whole deployment.

The tags

What is a tag?
A tag is a small device attached to the asset to position. Using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology, the tag transmit recurrent position signals, caught by the ISGSCAN gateways that sent them back to the SIGSCAN application. Tags come in different shapes and sizes.
What are the different tag sizes?

We offer a wide choice of tags, shaped and sized to fit all types of assets. You’ll find a description of each one of our tags on our website.

What is the tag autonomy?

All Sigscan BLE tags are battery-powered and have a 5 years minimum autonomy (standard conditions). Some tags can last up to 15 years, depending on their battery size.

What's the difference between a tag and a beacon?

Both terms refer to the same thing: a device enabling Real-time Location.

Beacon is the name used in computing for BLE tags, whereas “tag” is the term often used in the industry whatever the technology used (BLE, RFID …)

What's the difference between a BLE tag and an RFID tag?

Unlike bluetooth tags, which send information at regular intervals, RFID tags are passive, responding only when requested by a reader.

This type of tag is very inexpensive and can be used with Sigscan to carry out inventories. However, it cannot be used for Real-Time Location.

How to fix a tag to an asset?

The Sigscan tags portfolio was designed to fit with your use cases. There are tags to fix with a double-sided adhesive, with a clamp, or by screwing.

What is the BLE tag's emitting range?

BLE tags can communicate with gateways installed in your building in an up to 50 meters range.

Is the battery replaceable?

Most of our BLE tags use a replaceable battery. However, the batteries used in tags complying with strict IP67 waterproofing standards can only be replaced if the waterproof case is also replaced.

Are tags resistant to water or detergents?

All our tags are at least IP66 certified. To meet your requirements, some of them are waterproof and IP67 certified.

Are tags dangerous for humans health?

Our tags transmit very little information compared to other devices used on a daily basis. A connected smartphone with Bluetooth activated emits on average 20 times mores than a Sigscan tag.

Does the solution work with partner tags?

Sigscan don’t use any proprietary protocol for computing real time positions. The Sigscan solution therefore supports other devices using Bluetooth Low Energy technology. Sigscan also supports RFID technology.

The gateways

What is a gateway?

Gateways are small devices positioned at different places in your building. They receive the information transmitted by the tags. Then they forward the information to the Sigscan software, which processes the data and computes asset positions.

What is the difference between receiver, gateway and anchor?

The terms “receiver”, “gateway” or “anchor” are equivalent. They refer to the fixed devices installed in your building.

How does a gateway communicate?

Sigscan gateways have two types of connectivity (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) for transmitting positions in real time to the Sigscan software.

We may also offer a 4g gateway model during PoC phases.

Do gateways need to be powered?

To operate, gateways need to be powered using a USB2 charger or using POE (Power over Ethernet).

What is the range of the gateways?

The gateway range is a software-configurable setting in the SIGSCAN application. It can range from 1 to 50 meters, enabling precise asset tracking in one hand or covering an entire building with only one gateway in another hand.

The SIGSCAN application

Can Sigscan be connected with my ERP or MES?

The Sigscan solution provides a standard connector, enabling easy connection with most of the ERP and MES.
Moreover, Sigscan’s provides well documented public APIs, enabling advanced connectors’ development for real time data synchronization.

Which operating system can Sigscan be installed on?

The Sigscan application is available from any HTLM5 compatible web browser. We also offer an Android application for mobile terminals, which can be integrated on devices having a physical barcode reader.

Does Sigscan limit the number of active users?

Our application has no limits in terms of the number of users.

Can I configure the application myself?

Once the training phase is over and the solution is in your hands, you’ll be able to fully control the customization of the application (plans, object types, etc…).
